Bomb Threat Emails Spark Panic Across Delhi Schools: Authorities Declare Threats as Hoaxes

Delhi witnessed a wave of anxiety on Friday morning as approximately 30 schools received bomb threat emails, prompting immediate action from authorities. The fire department, police, bomb detection squads, and dog teams rushed to the affected schools, ensuring the safety of students and staff. Following thorough searches, no suspicious items were found, and the threats were declared hoaxes.

This incident follows a similar episode earlier in the week, where 44 schools received identical threats. Investigations revealed these earlier warnings to be hoaxes as well, though they raised serious security concerns across the city.

Schools Affected and Response Measures

Early Friday, bomb threat emails were received by several prominent institutions, including Bhatnagar International School in Paschim Vihar, Cambridge School in Shri Niwas Puri, and Delhi Public School in East of Kailash. In response, authorities immediately launched precautionary measures to ensure student safety. Many schools informed parents not to send their children to campus and shifted to online classes for the day.

Madhavi Goswami, Principal of Cambridge School, shared her experience, stating, “Upon seeing the threat in our school email, we immediately informed the police. Their response was swift, and they assured us of a thorough investigation.”

Similarly, at South Delhi Public School, security guard Karmveer confirmed that students already on campus were promptly sent back home, while parents arriving with children were requested to return.

The Investigation and Security Concerns

The bomb threat emails reportedly demanded $30,000 from school authorities, raising suspicions about the motive behind these hoaxes. Delhi Police, in collaboration with specialized crime branch teams, is currently investigating the origins of the emails.

This isn’t the first instance of such threats in Delhi. Earlier this year, over 200 schools across Delhi-NCR received similar bomb threat emails, causing widespread panic. In May, the Ministry of Home Affairs intervened, confirming that the threats were most likely hoaxes, although the situation prompted an intense security review.

Precautionary Steps and Public Awareness

In light of these repeated incidents, schools in Delhi are adopting stricter security protocols, including screening emails more rigorously and preparing contingency plans. The authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant while assuring them that all measures are being taken to ensure safety.

Parents are advised to stay calm but proactive, maintaining open communication with schools and law enforcement to navigate these challenging situations. Meanwhile, Delhi Police continues its efforts to trace the origins of these emails and prevent similar occurrences in the future.

This series of threats, though unfounded, highlights the importance of robust safety mechanisms in schools and a coordinated response from authorities to ensure a secure environment for students and staff.
